Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia
  • 1) To facilitate and coordinate the implementation of applied geoscience programmes in East and Southeast Asia in order to contribute to economic development and the improvement of the quality of life in the region.
  • 2) To promote capacity building, technology transfer, exchange of information and institutional linkages for sustainable resource development, management of geo-information, geo-hazard mitigation and protection of the environment.

South Pacific Applied Geoscience Commission
  • 1) To apply geoscience and technology to realize new opportunities for improving the livelihoods of Pacific communities.
  • 2) To promote geological information exchange among countries of South Pacific region and conduct joint research on marine disasters.

International Consortium Landslides
  • 1) To promote landslide research for the benefit of society and the environment, and capacity building, including education, notably in developing countries.
  • 2) To integrate geoscience and technology within the appropriate cultural and social contexts in order to evaluate landslide risk in urban, rural and developing areas including cultural and natural heritage sites, as well as to contribute to the protection of the natural environment and sites of high societal value.
  • 3) To combine and coordinate international expertise in landslide risk assessment and mitigation studies, thereby resulting in an effective international organization which will act as a partner in various international and national projects.

International Energy Agency-Geothermal Implementing Agreement
  • 1) To provide a flexible and powerful framework for international geothermal collaboration among countries, industries and industry organizations, and operate under the auspices of the International Energy Agency(IEA).
  • 2) To examine environmental impacts of geothermal energy development, enhanced geothermal system (EGS), advanced geothermal drilling and logging technologies, direct utilization of geothermal energy and induced seismicity.

Sub-Committee on Undersea Feature Names
  • 1) To define the nomenclature used for undersea features, e.g. canyon, plateau, fracture zone, etc., as well as naming guidelines.
  • 2) To consider and decide on names that have been submitted to the Sub-Committee.
  • 3) To maintain and make available a digital gazetteer of the names, generic feature type and geographic position of features on the sea floor.

International Ocean Discovery Program
  • 1) To explore Earth's history and dynamics using ocean-going research platforms to recover data recorded in seafloor sediments and rocks and to monitor subseafloor environments.

Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization
  • 1) To make it difficult for countries to develop nuclear bombs for the forst time, or for countries that already have them, to make bombs more powerful.
  • 2) To prevent huge damage caused by radioactivity from nuclear explosions to humans, animals and plants.

  • 1) To provide a working infrastructure that facilitates outstanding scientific endeavor.
  • 2) To understand the workings of planet Earth and utilize archives from the geological past, in close collaboration with partner organizations.
