KIGAM, promote Mongolia’s registration for CCOP member countries.

The Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (Dr. Kyu Han Kim, the President of KIGAM) met Ms. Uuriintuya, the Director of Mineral Resources Authority of Mongolia (MRAM) on 14 June (Tues). The purpose of meeting was to promote Mongolia’s registration for the membership of member countries of Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP).

※ CCOP is an intergovernmental organization whose mission is to improve the quality of geoscience research and to find solution for geoscience related problems in East and Southeast Asia region.  CCOP has fourteen member countries and fourteen cooperating countries who supports the organization by providing fund, technology and opportunity of exchanging the scientists across the countries. KIGAM is a research institute representing Korea at CCOP.  





*14 Member Countries: Republic of Korea, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Timor-Leste, Laos, and Myanmar.  
**14 Cooperating Countries: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Netherland, Norway, Poland, Russia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. 

Based on the cooperative relationship between KIGAM and MRAM, Dr. Kyu Han Kim who is an active member of the Steering Committee of CCOP suggested Mongolia to join into the member countries of CCOP. During this visit, Dr. Adichat Surinkum, the president of CCOP also visited MRAM and gave an introduction of the main role and visions of CCOP. 

In 2004, the first MOU between KIGAM and MRAM was signed and then later the MOU was successfully extended in 2010. Since 2010, the two institutes have been carried out joint-exploration over various places in Mongolia. Number of kinds of cooperation were conducted in order to maintain the cooperation between the two research institutes. Providing educational opportunity to student of Mongolia in order to allowing them to continue their MD and PhD programs at University of Science and Technology of Korea is an example of cooperation. 




In addition, during the breakfast social gathering meeting with Mr. Song Oh, Republic of Korea Ambassador to Mongolia, Dr. Kyu Han Kim, the President of KIGAM asked for an active support from the Embassy so that the collaboration among KIGAM and other geoscience related institutes in Mongolia can be stimulated.
