Research Agreement (RA) Signing Ceremony between KIGAM Korea and MRPAM Mongolia

Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM, President Dr. Bok Chul Kim) and Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority of Mongolia (MRPAM, Chairman Mr. Kherlen Khishigjargal) had a Research Agreement (RA) Signing Ceremony on March 18 2019. This RA will serve to complete the geological mapping at the scale of 1:50,000 in Mongolia.

This RA is the follow-up progress of the continued KIGAM-MRPAM joint research project since 2015, which is about the discovery of the major factors for the prediction of the hidden ore body based on 3D geological modelling. It was targeted for the porphyry copper mineralized zone in Tsogttsetsii area, which is the southern Mongolia.

KIGAM has close relationships with MRPAM. KIGAM’s International School for Geoscience Resources (IS-GEO) invited 22 trainees from MRPAM for the last 8 years. And, there is going to be one more participant from MRPAM for the new IS-GEO’s training course, which is Oil and Gas Development, Groundwater and Geologic Hazard Assessment starting on April 8th

During the meeting, the KIGAM and MRPAM were more than discussing about the ongoing project. Last year, KIGAM encouraged MRPAM to join Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP) as the representative organization of Mongolia to CCOP. And, President Kim specially thanked MRPAM that Mongolia finally joined CCOP as a Member Country, and the both organization broaden their research fields to CCOP-KIGAM Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources Projectswhich MRPAM requests their experts participate to the workshop.

Dr. Bok Chul Kim, President of KIGAM, mentioned “I hope these collaborative R&D works bring us with more practical economic developments, which shall benefit both Korea and Mongolia.”
